Regulatory Requirements
(Using EASA CS-25 Amendment 28 as the primary regulatory reference framework. EASA CS-25 Amendment 28
For this conceptual portfolio project, the regulations are described as design considerations, not as evidence that the partition is certified.)
CS 25.561 — Emergency Landing Conditions
The partition is a significant interior mass and therefore requires an appropriate structural load path and attachment system.
Design requirement:
The partition and its attachment system shall be evaluated for the applicable emergency-landing load conditions and shall provide an appropriate load path into the supporting aircraft structure.
CS 25.603 — Materials
The materials selected for the partition shall be suitable for their intended structural, environmental and cabin-interior application.
This applies to:
-
Thin panel construction
-
Face sheets
-
Core
-
Brackets
-
Adhesives
-
Finishes
CS 25.605 — Fabrication Methods
The selected manufacturing process shall consistently produce the required structural properties, dimensional accuracy and surface quality of the partition.
This becomes relevant when we decide whether the thin panel is manufactured using:
-
Composite sandwich construction
-
Bonded construction
-
Machined panel construction
-
Other suitable processes
CS 25.607 — Fasteners
The floor, ceiling and sidewall interfaces require attachment hardware.
Fasteners and attachment features shall be appropriately selected and sized for the applicable design loads and joint configuration.
(The actual fastener size should be determined later through joint/load analysis)
CS 25.611 — Accessibility Provisions
Installation and maintenance interfaces shall provide adequate access for inspection, adjustment, replacement and removal where required.
(This will later be demonstrated through DMU installation feasibility)
CS 25.613 — Material Strength
Appropriate material strength properties and design values shall be established before structural substantiation of the partition.
CS 25.813 — Emergency Exit Access
The partition shall not obstruct required passenger passageways or emergency-exit access.
(Because the partition stops before the central aisle, this becomes an important design constraint to verify during DMU integration)
CS 25.853 — Compartment Interiors
Materials, exposed surfaces and applicable finishes used in the partition shall satisfy the applicable cabin-interior flammability requirements.
Monument Requirements
MNR-001 — Function
The partition shall separate the forward galley/service zone from the premium passenger seating zone.
MNR-002 — Location
The partition shall be located at the forward boundary of the passenger seating area immediately aft of the service/galley zone.
MNR-003 — Seating-Zone Coverage
The partition shall extend only across the selected passenger seating region.
MNR-004 — Central Aisle Protection
The partition shall not extend into the central passenger circulation path.
MNR-005 — Cabin Curvature
The partition shall conform to the transverse curvature of the aircraft cabin envelope at its sidewall interface.
MNR-006 — Independent Stowage Relationship
The partition shall not be geometrically derived from the adjacent stowage surface. A controlled clearance shall be maintained between the partition and stowage.
MNR-007 — Thin Construction
The partition shall use a thin-wall/lightweight construction compatible with the surrounding cabin interior architecture.
MNR-008 — Ceiling Attachment
The upper region of the partition shall provide a defined attachment interface with the cabin ceiling/supporting structure.
MNR-009 — Floor Attachment
The lower region shall provide a defined attachment interface with the cabin floor/supporting structure.
MNR-010 — Sidewall Attachment
The lateral edge shall provide a defined interface with the curved cabin sidewall/supporting structure.
MNR-011 — Passenger Seat Clearance
The partition shall maintain adequate clearance from adjacent passenger seats and shall not interfere with passenger seating or seat operation.
MNR-012 — Stowage Clearance
The partition shall maintain adequate clearance from adjacent stowage and shall not interfere with its intended operation or access.
MNR-013 — Structural Load Path
Loads acting on the partition shall be transferred through the panel and attachment features into the supporting aircraft structure.
MNR-014 — Installation
The partition shall be installable within the available cabin installation envelope without interference with the floor, ceiling, sidewall, seats, stowage, galley or passenger circulation path.
MNR-015 — Removal
The partition shall be removable for maintenance or replacement without unnecessary removal of unrelated cabin monuments.
MNR-016 — Maintenance Access
All required attachment and maintenance locations shall provide sufficient access for appropriate installation and maintenance tooling.
MNR-017 — Surface Integration
The passenger-facing surface shall provide a smooth, visually integrated cabin finish and shall maintain appropriate continuity with surrounding cabin interior surfaces.
MNR-018 — Dimensional Control
Critical interface dimensions shall be controlled using appropriate dimensional tolerances and GD&T.
Critical characteristics will include:
-
Floor attachment position
-
Ceiling attachment position
-
Sidewall interface profile
-
Partition curvature
-
Mounting-hole positions
-
Panel thickness
-
Interface clearances
The key design definition of the project
"A thin, lightweight cabin partition positioned between the forward galley/service zone and the premium passenger seating area. The partition spans only the passenger seating region and terminates before the central passenger aisle. It is supported through floor, ceiling and sidewall interfaces. Its lateral/vertical profile is developed to conform to the transverse curvature of the aircraft cabin envelope rather than being derived from the adjacent stowage geometry. A controlled clearance is maintained between the partition and neighboring stowage."
